Paintings & Sketches

My favorite way to capture memories is through a sketchbook. I find that the act of recording a place by hand commits the details to memory more than any other method. When I open the sketchbook later, I remember not just the place I made the drawings of, but the smells, sounds, people and even weather of all the places I worked on the drawing.

Below is a selection of some of my favorite drawings, done in a variety of media: pencil, pen, Conté, watercolor and gouache. They are from a variety of times and places. Some were done in seconds directly in front of the subject, some took hours and had to be completed later. All capture my memories of the place as well as their subjects.
